Game Developers Conference 2016

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) is the world’s largest and longest-running professionals-only game industry event.

The GDC attracts over 26,000 attendees, and is the primary forum where programmers, artists, producers, game designers, audio professionals, business decision-makers and others involved in the development of interactive games gather to exchange ideas and shape the future of the industry. The GDC is produced by the UBM Tech Game Network.

This market defining conference features over 400 lectures, panels, tutorials and round-table discussions on a comprehensive selection of game development topics taught by leading industry experts. In addition, the GDC expo showcases all of the most relevant game development tools, platforms and services helping to drive the industry forward. The conference also features the seventeenth annual Independent Games Festival, the longest-running and largest festival relating to independent games worldwide, where original games compete for the attention of the publishing community, and the fifteenth annual Game Developers Choice Awards, the premier accolades for peer-recognition in the digital games industry.

It is a special pleasure for us to welcome you to the German Pavilion at Game Developers Conference 2016!

With a turnover of over 2.668 billion euros in 2014 (software and hardware), Germany is Europe’s second-largest market for entertainment software. The German video games industry, centering mostly around large urban areas like Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne and the Rhine-Ruhr region, as well as Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main area, employs an estimated workforce of 13.000. Almost every second person in Germany enjoys playing videogames, with smartphones and game consoles being equally popular as a platform. Every year in August Cologne becomes host for Europe’s biggest trade fair for interactive games and entertainment, the gamescom. Germany’s game developers are global leaders e.g. when it comes to strategy and casual games. Global players like Gameforge, Goodgame Studios, Innogames, Wooga, Upjers, AeriaGames/ProSiebenSat.1 Games, Xyrality and others are especially strong in online (browser) games and the still booming mobile games market. Top notch development teams like Ubisoft Blue Byte, Crytek, Limbic, Yager, Deck13 or adventure specialists Daedalic are located in Germany. Moreover Germany sees a vibrant indie and start-up scene forming the next generation of impressively creative game developers.

Within the German Pavilion, 15 exhibitors from Germany present their latest developments. We would like to invite you to visit the German companies to find out more about new technologies and tailor-made solutions.

On behalf of all exhibitors, the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA), BIU – The German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment and G.A.M.E. – The German Videogames Industry Association wish you a pleasant and successful visit to our presentation at booth no. 224 at GDC Expo, North Hall.
