The ISPO World Congress is a global event for multidisciplinary prosthetic and orthotic care and in 2017 it will be 16th edition of the ISPO World Congress – for the first time ever held in South Africa.
South Africa is still the leading market for medical devices in the African continent. South Africa ranked in 2015 among the top 25 export markets of German medical devices and and in general among the top 30 largest markets for medical devices in the world. The market is forecast to grow by a CAGR of 7.7% between 2013 and 2018, driven mainly by investments in the private sector as well as the development and upgrade of hospitals through public-private partnerships.
South Africa’s domestic medical device industry remains underdeveloped, with imports catering for 90% of the market by value. Therefore, the market offers very promising future possibilities for the sophisticated medical technology “Made in Germany”. After the USA, Germany is the second biggest supplier of medical devices to the South African market. Prosthetics and orthopaedics play an important role and will continue to remain at a stable value in sales share estimated at 11% in 2020.
The German Federal Ministry for Economics and Energy (BMWi) as well as the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) offer a German Pavilion at the ISPO World Congress for the second time and believe to open up new business opportunities for the German companies of the medical devices sector. SPECTARIS, the German industry association for the high-tech medium-sized business sector, as the initiating association, will accompany the German exhibitors and provide professional advice. 12 German companies from the medical devices sector will exhibit their products within the German Pavilion. The German medical devices manufacturers are well known all over the world for their high level of innovation and product quality. The R&D quota is estimated over 9% of revenue which leads to a highly innovative industry with more than one third of all products younger than 3 years. Today, Germany is the third largest supplier of medical devices worldwide. The high-quality brand of “Medtec made in Germany” represents products designed at the cutting edge of high tech and innovation.
On behalf of all exhibitors, the Federal Ministry for Economics and Energy, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) and SPECTARIS are looking forward to seeing you at the German Pavilion in hall 4-6, booth E 03. We wish you a very successful trade show, new ideas and sustainable contacts!
