Many of today’s musical instruments are industrially manufactured, providing the basis for rapid, reasonably priced and accurate mass production. However, we should not underestimate the manual skills involved in finishing off instruments. In fact this aspect is a vital factor in many types of instruments. German-made traditional acoustic musical instruments, whose manufacture involves a high proportion of manual skills, are among the best in the world. They are outstanding for their precision, quality, durability, excellent tone and playability, and for their visual appearance, in terms of both design and workmanship.
The musical instrument industry in Germany is renowned for its innovativeness, due to its considerable investments in research and development, and it compares very well on a worldwide scale. One particular advantage is its ability to adapt to the specific demands of professional and amateur musicians. This capability has helped to consolidate the international success of musical instruments made in Germany. This is borne out by an exceptionally high proportion of exports, which account for 60 per cent of total production. The finest instruments are supplied all over the world, but especially to the USA.
A typical feature of this industry is its close links with customers, the musicians themselves. As a result of their exacting demands and working in close collaboration with them, many new developments have taken place. The planning, design, construction and production of high quality musical instruments, and in many cases the particular attention to individual wishes and needs, confront manufacturers with complex tasks, requiring them to master a wide range of abilities. German manufacturers of musical instruments have faced these challenges, spending considerable sums on research in the process. Backed up by many centuries of expertise, they are ideally placed to manufacture every kind of instrument. The German industry can supply the American musicians with the instruments they need to meet differing needs: for virtuosi and students, from professional musicians to amateurs.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the Association of German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) and the National Association of German Musical Instruments Manufacturers (BDMH) would like to welcome you to the German Pavilion at the NAMM SHOW 2016.
