FIL 2016 – International Book Fair

Welcome to Germany’s official participation at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2016!

The German Pavilion is presented by Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in cooperation with AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, organized by LMI Leipziger Messe International GmbH and supported by the Frankfurt Book Fair, a subsidiary of the German Publishers & Booksellers Association (Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels).

Germany is participating in this book fair because of the many possibilities for cultural and economic exchange.

New contemporary fiction, academic, educational and scientific titles, children’s and teenage publications from Germany will be on show.

Personal contacts with the German publishing industry, information on the Frankfurt Book Fair and exchange with the international book market: the German Pavilion does so much more than simply inviting you to discover the contemporary editorial panorama in Germany.

Reading a book is still one of the most popular leisure activities in Germany. And of course reading is linked to the wish for lifelong learning.

87,100 new titles were published in Germany in 2014: fiction, children’s books, art and photography books, reissues of great German authors and thinkers of the past, as well as current academic, scientific and educational publications. In 2014, more than 6,400 German titles were translated into over 40 languages. English is still the dominant language of origin for translations into German, with a total share of 65,5 per cent.
