Welcome to the presentation of the Federal Republic of Germany!
Under the roof of the German pavilion in Tokyo 9 German exhibitors present a wide range of high quality jewellery, precious stones and watches.
Germany is the second largest producer of jewellery in Europe. The German jewellery and silverware industry is dominated by small and medium-sized enterprises. The center of the German jewellery and watch industry is located in Pforzheim on the edge of the Black Forest where nearly 70 % of German jewellery is produced with worldwide esteem. A number of reputable companies and associations are based here together with Pforzheims`s goldsmith and watchmaking school and other institutions form the field.
In 2017 Pforzheim is going to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its jewellery and watch industry. Since nearly 250 years Pforzheim stands for historical tradition, quality, creativity and design; together with Idar–Oberstein as a gemstone city and Schwaebisch Gmuend for silver made items, Germany is well known for its concentration of expertise in the jewellery and watch business.
German jewellery, watch and clock industry is one of the world’s most important producer and exporter of jewellery, watches and clocks.
Exports are very important for this sector in Germany. Many companies export 70 or more percent of their products. The export to Japan from January to September 2013 added up to more than 47 million €.
In addition to the jewellery center Pforzheim there is the gemstone cutting center of Idar-Oberstein, covering cutting, carving and trading for more than 500 years. This international trading place has its origin in the rough stones that were once mined there.
Today the term “IdarCut” all over the world stands for superior cutting, innovative gem design and distinguished qualities. In a field of strong international competition Idar-Oberstein has been able to maintain its place as one of the top gem centers of the world.
On behalf of all German exhibitors, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA), the Federation of German Jewellery, Watches, Clocks, Silverware and Related Industries, Pforzheim and the Federal Association of Precious Stones and Diamond Industry, Idar Oberstein welcome you most cordially to the presentation of the Federal Republic of Germany at the German Pavilion.
